DiMarzio DP170 Blue Velvet Pickup

I purchased the DiMarzio Blue Velvet for a tonal varietion to place in between my Bare Knuckle Painkiller and my Bare Knuckle The Sinner. The first thing I noticed was the smooth clean tone that rolled out when I started strumming. It was a clear, almost acoustic-like sound that emanated from the amplifier, but with that slight electric tinge. The Blue Velvet has a very balanced tone that would work well in many situations, especially when on the clean side of things. When I played my ESP Mirage through an heavily overdriven set up, it did not do what my single coil Sinner could do for powerful lead tones and fierce runs, but then again, it was not made for that. It does what its meant to do beautifully with a nice balanced tone, but isn't extremely impressive outside of its "comfort zone".
